Job Purpose
As Cyclotron Operator, you’ll form part of the highly specialised team operating and maintaining this vital equipment used to produce radioisotopes at our state-of-the-art clinical trial imaging clinic based adjacent to Hammersmith Hospital in West London.
Enjoying significant accountability, you’ll be tasked with running all aspects of the production process, from ensuring relevant gases are available, pre-checks and initialisation, through to ensuring the radiotracer molecules produced are satisfactorily delivered for onward use. Outside scheduled production periods, you’ll also be expected to perform routine maintenance - mechanical, electrical and electronic – tasks and will be encouraged to learn and contribute towards fault diagnosis and systems maintenance.
Supported with comprehensive training, once fully competent you can expect to enjoy substantial autonomy and will be encouraged to develop your expertise in this technology, with the potential to progress to an engineering role.
Principal Accountabilities
- Routinely operating and maintaining the two cyclotrons and associated systems across day and night shifts.
- Maintaining the energy centre, workshop and cyclotron laboratories.
Specific Activities
- Initialising and operating the cyclotrons in accordance with the daily schedule.
- Supporting the cyclotron RNDS sanitisation regime.
- Diagnosing faults and initiating relevant rectifications.
- Operating the ACS system.
- Ensuring the Energy Centre Gas storage area is maintained and adequately stocked.
- Supporting the control of all cyclotron vault area documentation and ensuring accurate records of both environmental data and equipment condition are maintained.
- Supporting the operation of radio-active delivery to external customers.
- Carrying out maintenance and repairs as necessary.
Functional Competencies (Technical Knowledge/Skills)
- Strong understanding of GMP with prior experience working in a GMP - or other highly regulated – environment
- Strong technical and practical problem-solving skills / mindset, able to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical and routine software issues

- Mature in approach, comfortable with accountability and with working autonomously with little supervision
- Strong team player, supportive of other team members and willing to be flexible in achieving team goals / delivering against team targets

Education
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electronics and/or Mechanical Engineering or related technology
- English: Fluent
