Salary: • £35,827 - £38,754 FTE per annum (pro rata)

Role Overview:

We are seeking a caring, proactive and motivated Progress Mentor to join our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team. In this vital student-facing role, you will provide one-to-one support for learners who require additional guidance, helping them stay safe, attend college consistently, and achieve their full potential.

You will work closely with the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, Safeguarding Officer, and external agencies to address barriers to learning, manage safeguarding concerns, and promote positive wellbeing across the college community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-to-one mentoring for a caseload of students needing additional support, helping them overcome challenges affecting their ability to study.
• Deliver workshops and group sessions on topics such as mental health, exam stress, and healthy relationships.
• Monitor and review the attendance, engagement and academic progress of students on your caseload.
• Promote students’ rights, responsibilities and fundamental British values, encouraging positive relationships and behaviour.
• Maintain professional curiosity around safeguarding concerns and report issues promptly and accurately.
• Support learners in setting personal targets and coach them towards achieving these goals.
• Make referrals to external agencies including social services and mental health services, and represent the College in multi-agency meetings.
• Build constructive relationships with parents and carers, addressing concerns and sharing information appropriately.
• Provide cover across Student Support Centres and Common Rooms across all three campuses when needed.
• Work with the Student Services Manager to develop and strengthen internal and external partnerships that enhance student support.
• Accurately record case notes and safeguarding concerns using MyConcern.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and positive relationships with young people.
• Experience supporting learners with pastoral, safeguarding or wellbeing needs (or a willingness to learn).
• Ability to manage sensitive information and work professionally with external agencies.
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Confidence in delivering small group sessions or workshops.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
