Job Purpose
We’re looking for a Cyclotron Engineer to join the small, specialist team based at our state-of-the-art clinical imaging centre in Hammersmith, West London.
In this role you'll support the maintenance and operation of the two on site cyclotrons vital in enabling the production of the short lived 11C and 18F isotopes essential in supporting our TR and DPS studies.
An experienced professional, you'll enjoy significant autonomy, drawing upon your expertise to make informed inputs and exercise sound judgement which inspires confidence amongst your colleagues and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Management of Cyclotron Operations and Associated Systems Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Provide Risk Management & Failure Prevention
- Provide On‑Call and Out‑of‑Hours Engineering Support
- Maintain Cyclotrons and Supporting Systems (ACS and RNDS)
- Delivers reliable Cyclotron Operations including training, repair, and maintenance (including management of repair parts inventory) of the two Siemens RDS Eclipse cyclotrons.
- Operate and maintain Radionuclide Delivery System (RNDS) and the Air Compressing Station (ACS) based at the clinical imaging center.
- High‑vacuum systems (leak detection, pumps, gauges)
- RF systems and high‑voltage power supplies
- Mechanical maintenance, alignment, and troubleshooting.
Radiation Protection & Compliance
- Ensure Safety, Compliance, and Regulatory Adherence
- Support Continuous Improvement and Technical Development
- Radiation protection, monitoring, and ALARP principles
Documentation & Quality
- Responsible for ordering and maintaining a list and inventory of Cyclotron spare parts.
- Documentation control of all cyclotron vault area SOP's ensuring accurate records of both environmental data and equipment condition are kept.
Functional Competencies (Technical knowledge/Skills)
- Excellent understanding of cyclotron physics and charged‑particle acceleration principles.
- Good understanding of radionuclide production pathways and targetry.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Experience, Education, and Certifications
- A minimum of a degree (or equivalent) in electronics and/or mechanical engineering or related technology.
- 5+ years’ experience in PET cyclotron operation and maintenance.
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Self-motivated with excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of working with radioactive materials is essential.
- Understanding and adherence to safety rules
- English: Fluent.
Practical Considerations
- The role covers night shift operation on a rotating basis and provides out-of-hours on-call engineering support for Cyclotron Operators.
