Bakery Assistant (Barista)

Role Overview

Riverside Studios is a multi-arts centre located on the banks of the River Thames in Hammersmith, presenting contemporary theatre, film, visual arts, and television production. Alongside its artistic programme, Riverside Studios offers a vibrant hospitality experience for audiences, visitors, and event clients.

The Bakery Assistant / Barista plays a key role in delivering this experience, supporting the day-to-day operation of the café and bakery offer.

This role focuses on preparing and serving high-quality coffee, beverages, and fresh bakery items while providing a warm, welcoming service to a diverse audience.

Working primarily during busy weekend periods, including pre-show and interval rushes, the role requires someone who is efficient, friendly, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. You will contribute to maintaining excellent presentation standards, smooth service flow, and an enjoyable customer experience that complements the creative energy of the venue.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, drinks, and bakery items
• Ensure excellent attention to detail in drink preparation, food presentation, and service standards
• Follow all food handling, hygiene, and safety procedures in line with regulations
• Provide friendly, efficient customer service to all visitors
• Handle cash and card transactions accurately using the till/POS system
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of café and service areas

• Maintain inventory levels and restock supplies as needed.

• Support the team during busy service periods, including pre-show and interval rushes

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in a café, bakery, or barista role preferred (but not essential)
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Basic knowledge of food handling and hygiene practices
• Experience handling cash and operating tills is desirable
• A positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure
